Lavender
Farm
is situated in Banstead, Surrey, and as purple is my favourite
colour, visiting there was a delight for my eyes! The pervasive,
soft fragrance of the plants is very, very easy on the nose.
The tradition of cultivating lavender for both medicinal purposes and to use as a fragrance is quintessentially English. Elizabeth I insisted that her residences were filled with its heady perfume, and Queen Victoria absolutely adored lavender and started a bit of a trend regarding it. Not only did she insist on sprigs being strewn over her palace floors, she enjoyed lavender tea, and even put lavender jelly on her lamb, instead of mint! The 21st century story began when a lavender growing initiative was established in the area to reinvigorate traditional English cosmetics brand Yardly, which had gone out of fashion.
The farm has many bees buzzing around- I had to keep my big gob shut, in case one floated into my trap! And, me being, me, I just had to lower the tone- surely you must have heard of young women wearing the delightful-sounding fragrance “Night in the Dyke” by Yardly?
Come and take a walk in my shoes, and check my video out!
