If you're a bit of a rock chick (like myself!) or a bit of an indie geezer or metalhead, then you're gonna love this atmospheric exhibition!
The Lost Music Venues display is quite small, with artefacts filling only a couple of rooms, and is in the V&A Museum; South Kensington, London. Documenting 50 pubs and clubs which were well known “back in the day,” this exhibition explores the modern historic music scene via a selection of flyers, posters, photographs and artefacts.
The sign for the legendary Astoria- a venue destroyed to make way for the Elizabeth Line- is here (kindly lent by Blur frontman Damon Albarn), and so is a briefcase belonging to Pulp's tour manager, Mark Webber. You'll also see Franz Ferdinand's singer Alex Kapranos's gold shirt, and a clubbing outfit designed by the Grande Dame of fashion herself: Vivienne Westwood. I used to party on this scene- mainly at the Intrepid Fox, in Soho (a legendary rock pub which is sadly also closed), so this was a real nostalgia trip for me. The exhibition is free to enter and is on until October 2027
Come and take a walk in my shoes through mock-ups of a graffiti-ridden green room; a leopard print club lounge; a Kinky Gerlinky stage; a solid security door and toilets so rancid you can almost SMELL them!
